Cajon Pass Work Train

This is a SP (Herzog) Work Train, electro-magnet picking up scrap metal on the Palmdale Cutoff a few miles below Hiland (Summit). The Santa Fe track below is now DT and the tunnel had be day-lighted. Mt. Baldy in the middle back ground. Photo was 1989.

I caught a C&IM SD38-2 on the point of a work train at Hiland just a few years later. :)
