Nostalgia & History > Not Actually A F Unit FridayDate: 02/26/16 01:51 Not Actually A F Unit Friday Author: Rainier_Rails Not a E Unit, PA or FA Friday, either, but a:
AC&F Talgo II demonstrator set. I don't know if this was a specifically made trainset, or if it is actually 2 of the 3-car sets that later saw service on the Rock Island. AC&F built the engine as well, with GE components. Dick Wallin Ektachrome duplicate slide, date and location are unknown. Date: 02/26/16 04:31 Re: Not Actually A F Unit Friday Author: valmont Here's one of the 3 that were on the Rock, all 3 were the same, the one in your post is not one of these 3. Perhaps this train didn't operate in the US ... I believe the pic you posted could have been in Spain or Portugal.
Second shot by Alan Miller @ LA on March 6, 1956 ... in the demo scheme Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 02/26/16 04:48 by valmont. The picture was likely taken in Berwick when there was an open house and the public was invited to tour the train. It is a six car train. It tested on the DL&W branch which ran thru Berwick.

Thanks for the photos. Lee Hower - Sacramento Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/26/16 13:22 by mcfflyer. Date: 02/26/16 13:25 Re: Not Actually A F Unit Friday Author: twin_star_rocket The ACF Talgo Demo cars WERE NOT part of the Rock Island "Jet Rocket" Talgo trainset. The RI cars had more square carbodies, and no portholes. This picture is kind of dark, but you can see the differences from the demo set: https://garygarthmccann.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/rockislandterrorizes.jpg
