Nostalgia & History > From Wyoming to Waukegan, Coal On The MoveDate: 03/22/16 04:53 From Wyoming to Waukegan, Coal On The Move Author: CNW8531 Coal trains looked so much better years ago before the C&NW disappeared. Here's one from back on 9/17/95 moving east by Camanche enroute to a crew change in Clinton, Iowa. This train (BTWKC) was loaded at the Black Thunder mine in Wyoming and is heading for Waukegan, Illinois. I believe only four of the 77 C40-8's the C&NW rostered ever received the Operation Lifesaver logo's on the side. The #8551 being one of them.

Very nice trio of a sharp looking engine and you sure don't see many pictures of standard cab C40-8's with the Operation Lifesaver slogan. Didn't one of the C40-8's also have a Wyoming Centennial emblem or something like that? Date: 03/22/16 07:56 Re: From Wyoming to Waukegan, Coal On The Move Author: ntharalson Wasn't the 8551 one of the units assigned to the Escanaba ore operations. And wasn't that the
reason it got those red marker lights? I seem to recall that. Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 03/22/16 08:08 Re: From Wyoming to Waukegan, Coal On The Move Author: ATSF100WEST CNW-
Gorgeous sequence! I'll only disagree with you on one CNW point - the "Zito Yellow" era. To me, the "Candy Apple Green" and "Coachman Yellow" schemes were the most eye-catching. My favorites were the original F-unit scheme with black, and the "tiger striped" "Route of the Streamliners/400's" scheme. Thanks for sharing them here, Bob ATSF100WEST......Out Date: 03/22/16 13:04 Re: From Wyoming to Waukegan, Coal On The Move Author: GP30Frank SP8595 Wrote:
