Always thoiught the smoke emerging with the units from Tunnel 5 was totally cool!

A couple of questions occurred to me as I watched this. First, where did the helpers
cut out?  Was it at the top of the grade at Tehachapi, or did they run through to LA?
Second, what was the route into LA?  Did they take the Palmdale Cutoff to West
Colton then in, or did they go down the Saugus Line?  I'm sure I've been told once
or twice about both of these, but I'm having a brain cramp and can't remember.

IIRC, helpers went all the way to Palmdale, where they were cut out and the train took the Saugus line to LA (Carson to be exact).

The helpers ran to Sylmar for the most part. There would be no reason to cut out at Palmdale. They were needed BKFLD to Mojave forpower and dynamics, then Palmdale to Sylmar (every once in a while to LA Taylor) for the same reason. All the years I worked the helpers the route was through the Saugs Canyon.
