1.....@ Bassett between El Monte and City of Industry

3.....@ West Colton 2 on the point with L windshields

I always liked the look of the L windshields. 

Did any railroads other than SP and Frisco partake of the L windshield option?

IC's 20 original GP38AC's (9500-9519) were delived with the L-shaped windshields and the GP40's (3060-3069) delivered about the same time time did as well. In addition, the SD40A's were also delivered with the three-piece windshields.

Add to that list Alaska's GP40-2/GP49's and three of four SD45 Demonstrators had them.  One of the "L's" went to IC and two of them went to the D&H and then the EL and back to the D&H.

Not all the Alaska GP40-2s have 'L' windows but some do. Here's a few. For the record, the "through the window" shot at Hurricane was after we secured the train and were dead-on-the-law awaiting our ride.

I wasn't a fan of them, because if somebody threw even a mere mud pie at you, it would blast through the window if you were making any speed. At least the pre-FRA glazing on windows with a pillar had a chance of thwarting an attack. Bah!
