Steam Saturday - OHCR 1551
Author: refarkas

The Ohio Central steam trips out of Sugarcreek, Ohio are truely missed. Here are two images from July 1998.
I was told insurance costs helped doom this operation.
Image one: OHCR 1551 (Ex-CN 1551) is leaving Sugarcreek with her southbound train.
Image two: OHCR 1551 is nearing Baltic, Ohio.

I love your second photo as it shows Americana at its finest.

I really miss her. We used to go up every month or so. The two big Trainfests were fun, too, but just hanging out in Sugarcreek, having lunch at the Swiss Hat, making the two o'clock run down to Baltic...that was a great summer Saturday.

Amish residence? I don't see power/pnone lines.

My guess is that it is an Amish residence. Every once in a while an Amish buggy or wagon pulled by horses would pass by on the road. What a scene that was!

Yes Sugarcreek/Millersburg is very much an Amish community, If you travel a little futher west of Sugarcreek on Oh39 it is well worth the visit even if not train related as there are lots of Amish shops to explore.

Plus, if you follow the line toward Baltic, you'll go by the Age of Steam Roundhouse :)

If you're looking at buildings thinking "Is that it?" you aren't there yet.

Very cool! I rode those trips out of Sugarcreek numerous time with my parents.... I was less than a year old when the above pictures were taken.

I was lucky to shoot a northbound OC train passing the old station in Sugarcreek on 4/3/16. Also, there is still a pile of coal left there for the steam trips (taken 12/17/15).
