Andersen Windows - Bayport MN
Author: chrisbutts

Hello there, does anyone have any pictures of rail operations at the Andersen plant in Bayport MN (they owned 1 or 2 switchers for in-plant switching).   Apparently Andersen was shipping out box cars of windows into the early 1990s so curious to see what kind of box cars were in the service, we assume CNW RBL's (insulated box cars).

Thanks,
Chris

I dont know anything about the plant or its switchers but I delivered many boxcars of those windows to a company that was located on our line. The cars I delivered were usually common 40ft. cars from C&NW, SOO and Milwaukee Road.

Andersen Windows SW1 3110 should still be at the Minnesota Transportation Museum in St. Paul.  It was donated in 2000 and there are many photos of it online.  If all else fails, maybe you could contact them.

The first ones I did were in late 1979, dont remember when we stopped getting cars from Anderson but I think it was late 80's or early 90's. I worked for a short line and we got our cars from Conrail. They started having problems getting the cars to us in a timley manner, often 8-10 days from Chicago to western NY, resulting in the loss of the business.
