1. and 2. AMTK 232 with Train 4, the Southwest Limited, at Joliet, IL on August 29, 1983

3. AMTK 238 with Train 3, the Southwest Chief, at Joliet, IL on June 25, 1991

4. and 5.  AMTK 331 with Train 21, the Texas Eagle, at Joliet, IL on June 25, 1991.  I have no idea what the Horizon cars are doing on the train.

Nice shots!  Old Santa fe Ry. train conductors and brakemen were based out Of Chillicothe,IL and Fort Madison, IA and worked Fort  Madison-Chicago-Fort Madison. Chicago bases engineers and Fort Madison based firemen worked between Chicago and Fort Madison in photo# 1and 2.

A good guess would be they're for Chicago - St. Louis local traffic and won't continue south of there.

I miss the ATSF F's and the GM&O E's.

In pictures 4 and 5 it is interesting that No. 21 is on the GM&O southbound track instead of being
crossed over to the ATSF South Track to get next to the platform.  I believe the switches to do so
were still in place at that time.  Concur that the Horizon cars were probably for local Chicago - St. Louis
traffic.

That's pretty bad loading them across the tracks and not even a step box on the ballast.
