Sometimes We Forget... - Brewster, Ohio
Author: refarkas

Sometimes we forget what an engine facility could look like in the early 1970's. The first close-up sight of the N&W Brewster, Ohio engine facility was when you followed the access road down to the yard. Locomotives were everywhere, or so it seemed. N&W 1004 and 745 were on one of the five visible leads to the Brewster shops. The other locomotives were scattered over the engine facility including beyond the brick office where releases were easily obtained. The EMD switcher was on one of the two visible tracks used to access the turntable. In this July 3, 1972 photo, locomotives from ALCO, EMD, and FM can be seen.
Today Brewster is the home of the Wheeling and Lake Erie. Fallen flag motive power is no longer seen since EMD's are used by the Wheeling. The office building and some of these tracks have been removed. Yet the W&LE's rainbow-colored fleet of locomotives not only call this home but brighten the engine facility with their many different paint jobs.

Good photo when there was more variety. That was before the locomotives looked like they were aa still in the box.

Thanks for the photo.

Brewster seemed to collect the odd-balls on N&W back then.
