Author: TTM

Robert W Johnston took this shot at Auburn WA in 1981 of BN 702, 991,988, and 626 posing for their photo at the turn table at Auburn Yard.

Thanks for looking, hope you enjoyed.

As nice as the F's are, the gems are in the middle. Great catch.

991 and 988 were EMD NW-5's, ex GN locomotives built in December 1946. I remember seeing some of this model, (don't know if they
were these exact ones) inside the Interbay roundhouse at Seattle in the early 1980's when they visited for major maintenance.
Since they were assigned to Canadian operations in New Westminster, B.C. they retained their footboards after other U.S. units
had theirs removed to comply with FRA rules.
Apparently BN moved them 'dead-in-train' from B.C. to Interbay in order to stay in compliance.

GN NW5 #192 (BN #992) is now at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN.
It was operating and looking very well on my last trip to Duluth.

Somewhere in my collection I have a shot of this same group of locos at Auburn.
I believe they were all retired by this time.
