Nostalgia & History > Alabama Tennessee & Northern DepotDate: 10/16/16 09:19 Alabama Tennessee & Northern Depot Author: Alcors32 Date: 10/16/16 12:24 Re: Alabama Tennessee & Northern Depot Author: ctillnc As context, the AT&N ran southward from Reform (terminus at a connection with the GM&O) to Mobile. More important than the connection at Reform was the connection with the SLSF 21 miles south from Reform at Aliceville. In 1948 the SLSF purchased the AT&N to get access to the Port of Mobile and the industrial plants along the Mobile River (paper and chemicals). All the ex-AT&N was abandoned in the 1970s and 1980s except for 15 miles on the Mobile end which remains to serve industries. I don't know who operates those 15 miles.
An older photo of the depot at Reform is posted at http://www.msrailroads.com/AT&N.htm (scroll down about a third of the way). Google Maps satellite photo indicates that the depot still stands, although just barely. Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 10/16/16 19:55 by ctillnc. |
