In one of the EL books several pictures show the operation using a deck gun with no haz protection.

Bogle Company Weed Control Train - On the EL Author: train1275 EL must have had an on-going contract with Bogle as on August 5, 1973 this very unit was in Upstate NY on the Richfield Springs Branch as lensed by railfan Charles Ballard at the Route 20 crossing (Gano's) just outside of Richfield Springs shoved by GP-7 #1404.
