Nostalgia & History > Location Help, Two Western Pacific TrainsDate: 10/26/16 14:22 Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: MartyBernard These were in Roger Puta's SP box but at higher resolution there is no doubt these are trains with WP diesels.
Again, the dates are what the processer stamped on the slide mount. 1. April 1982 2. February 1982 Thanks again for helping, Marty Bernard Date: 10/26/16 14:30 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: KeyRouteKen Hi Marty-- I'm probably wrong, but from the looks of those hills I'd say "Altamont Pass" ..between Livermore and Tracy.
KRK Date: 10/26/16 14:30 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: SCUfoamer Looks like Altamont Pass to me.
Date: 10/26/16 14:56 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: Pullman Not only is is on the Altamont, but on the SP line (not the WP) over the Altamont.
Very nice. Date: 10/26/16 15:05 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: MartyBernard Thanks.
Marty Date: 10/26/16 16:00 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: WAF E/B WP train in the first shot is heading into T3
Date: 10/26/16 16:13 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: zephyrus Absolutely Altamont.
The first one looks to me like the WP train is actually EB on the SP line, about to go into the tunnel that ducks under 580 near WP'd Redmond Cut. I think the second one is an EB also on the SP line. The concrete culvert on the between the tracks and road on the left lines up with a culvert near Carroll Road. If I'm recalling correctly, that would put the current route of 580 off the the left. Z Date: 10/26/16 16:39 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: WAF Being 1982, yes, WP detouring on the SP due to work in T1 in Niles Canyon
Date: 10/26/16 17:39 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: billmeeker Both WP trains are detouring on the SP as a few have stated. Both slides were probably taken in February 1982.

Date: 10/26/16 20:45 Re: Location Help, Two Western Pacific Trains Author: JamesSchlinger I can tell you that the second train is without a doubt an eastbound on the SP, climbing the western slope of Altamont. It is about to cross underneath Altamont Pass Rd (today, the bridge that carried the road over the SP ROW is gone).
Likewise, your first shot is not tunnel 3 on the WP as some have said, but instead is an eastbound train about to enter SP's tunnel. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 10/26/16 20:46 by JamesSchlinger.
