Author: JoCoLB Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive No. 844, which is on its way back to Cheyenne from Memphis, Tenn., made a scheduled 15-minute stop in the Eastern Kansas town of Osawatomie late Thursday afternoon. The train already had a high green northward when it arrived in Osawatomie. A MOW crew had already cleared up at nearby Paola, Kan., where extrensive track work has been underway since a derailment on Oct. 16.

The brick structure was originally a Missouri Pacific division office. It is now used by MOW and signal department personnel. The Missouri Pacific buzzsaw logo remains above the front door. The U.P. emblem was only added in recent years.

Since 844 has a green signal, the red signal on the siding track is to be expected. That way you don't have to creep until you see the signal indication.

Track Two south of the Osawatomie switch yard was constructed a few years before the U.P. acquired the Missouri Pacific.
