A shot of the Sunset Limited - Huey P bridge -- May 75
Author: gcm

Chasing the westbound Sunset out of the station, I got one shot on the Huey P Long bridge.
Luckily I don't take pictures like this while driving anymore (especially on narrow 30's built roads).
Anyway the Sunset was interesting - an SP business car on the rear and what looks like a couple of slumbercoaches - maybe ex-NYC Harbor series cars ?
An SP diner (not totally painted to Amtrak yet) is being used.

That car ahead of the SP business car looks to be a former GN duplex sleeper.

Agreed; the two cars ahead of the business car are former GN cars with duplex roomettes.

That's a nice catch. Bridge has been widened since shot but wow, was it narrow back then.

Also agreed. I encountered "Bad Axe River" on No 1 about this time.

Great view!  Your photos are always a treat.  It's always good to see anything of the H.P. Long bridge.  Even the old taxi you're following is neat.

Duplex roomette car might have been a dorm.  Then come the two sleepers; UP diner and ATSF lounge; three hilevels and bag.  Typical Sun Ltd. consist in those days.

I assume that the train staff do not unlock the doors to the toilets until the train has completed crossing the bridge.

Very good catch on the exGN Duplex Sleepers.  Amtrak's two initially was used on the Night Owl.  I've not see pictures of them this far west.  The did sub on the Florida trains a time or two.
