Southern GP30 2580 leads eastbound 161 by the Buechel Depot in east Louisville Ky. September 5,1987
Southern GP30 2601 leads another 161 near Clark Station Ky. on November 19,1989. The 2601 now resides at the NCTM in Spencer North Carolina.
Four Southern GP30's the 2580,2558,2570 and 2593 struggle up Buechel Hill near Jeffersontown Ky. in January 1989.

Nice set of photos and info.  The high short hood made for a strange looking face, but is nice to see them long hood forward.

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest I've always been partial to the look of western railroading but MAN the Southern Railway had some classy looking locomotives.  I wish I was able to capture this fine scheme before they all turned into horse heads.
