Nostalgia & History > BB: Double Deer Lodge Depots - 1970Date: 01/12/17 06:41 BB: Double Deer Lodge Depots - 1970 Author: valmont Both taken by Bruce Black @ Deer Lodge, MT on June 30, 1970. MILW depot is first and NP is second. If you look closely at pic 1, you'll see how close the two depots were, as that's the NP depot you see in the background.

Date: 01/12/17 07:22 Re: BB: Double Deer Lodge Depots - 1970 Author: fbe Both depots are still there. The MILW depot is at the same location and is a church. The NP depot is moved less than 100' off the tracks and is a senior citizens center serving lunch.

Date: 01/12/17 08:34 Re: BB: Double Deer Lodge Depots - 1970 Author: fbe The short section of track with stock cars I believe at at the Grant Kohrs Ranch historical site. East (south) of the Clark Fork River there is a BN built connection to the old MILW track which ran between the car shop, roundhouse and roundhouse to the sawmill at the top of the hill which is still served by BNSF.

excuse to start a conversation, tis the norm these days. The second one is taken while driving across the former Northern Pacific. My dad and I thought the whole Milwaukee Road that we had followed from Trident to Deer Lodge had been a spiritual experience before seeing the Church.

I'm surprised some eccentric affluent railfan has not claimed in and had it restored into a mountain hideaway.
Date: 01/12/17 23:34 Re: BB: Double Deer Lodge Depots - 1970 Author: fbe The caboose is restored and sits in the Montana Territorial Prison parking lot next to the Joe, E9 and Golden Spike marker.
Alberton has a restored rib side caboose behind the library which is a museum. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 01/12/17 23:36 by fbe. Date: 01/12/17 23:34 Re: BB: Double Deer Lodge Depots - 1970 Author: mp51w Wow! A black bandit caboose! It still has it's two way radio antenna too!
