(1) Dome coach 9478 was an ex-NP car (551) built by Budd in 1954 for the North Coast Limited. (2) 3335 was a blunt end tavern-lounge-observation built by Budd in 1947 for the ACL (256) and the Champion. Looks like they are switching in (or out) some dome coaches to/from the Chicago-Denver portion of the SFZ. I bet the passengers were thrilled with the classic Amtrak screaming purple and orange decor of the ex-ACL tavern lounge obs running mid-train. It was 1970's American train travel at it's finest :)

Just looking at the word lexan makes me nauseated.I had some bad trips on Amtrak with scratched lexan windows. Paying extra bucks for a roomette then not being able to see out of the window. It went on to become 9400 in the HEP program.
