I'll say that's around 1956-57ish, at Grand Island. If you have a higher-resolution version of the photo, you should be able to zoom in on the signal and read the number to give us a definite location. Author: GRNDMND That veranda vantage point would not be my choice for a cruise to Alaska, but with a good set of noise cancelling headphones, it wouldn't be bad for a stint out on the mainline.

Author: agentatascadero I suppose it's good....sort of.....for the cattle that this is their last trip, because they'll surely arrive at the destination totally deaf. Same for anybody foolish enough to sit on the veranda for a trip. Those turbines were unbearably loud....I wonder how the operating crews dealt with the incredible noise. AA
