BN in downtown Portland OR 1979
Author: thebluecomet

During my cross country Amtrak trip I spent two days in Portland in May 1979. Arrived from Seattle on the Coast Starlight in the afternoon of the 6th and left the next day on the Pioneer for Utah at midday. In no particular order here is some of the power found at the downtown Hoyt St. engine terminal, now long gone. Probably all of the units seen here are gone as well. All photos from May 6 & 7 1979.

A few more from Portland. The former SP&S Alco was not running, but it disappeared during the night. The PT Alco reminded me of the other Portland Terminal back east in Maine. Ironically used the same model. Again May 6 & 7, 1979.

This my favorite period in U.S. railroading when you could see consists of first and second generations of diesels operating together.

Great stuff, no complaints. Post 'em if you got 'em.

Yep, the yard area is a multi-story Condo kinda thing. The buildings along the river bank are still there but also being converted to condos. not sure what the PT is these days.
