This slide was processed 7/63 with "NYC on IC" being the only description on the mount.  With that limited identification, I'm going with a "James Whitcomb Riley" (arriving or departing?) in the IC electrified territory south of Central Station by unknown photographer.  Back when there were some pretty interesting passenger trains to observe and ride...

In 1965 and 1967 I subsequently made several trips from Chicago to Lee Hall VA in that through C&O sleeper.

Nice shot!  Old NYC RR's passenger train  and engine crews, were based out of Indianapolis, IN and worked between Indy and Chicago.

Not only is this a sharp action photo, but it is creative in its framing.

Believe your identification of the train as being the "James Whitcomb Riley" (Riley) is spot on.
The third car back is an N&W tuscan red baggage car followed by a C&O passenger car that appears to be a coach.
At one time, I am almost certain, that the Riley carried through C&O cars on this run.

My January 1962 Official Guide leads me to believe this is indeed NYC train #304, The James Whitcomb Riley which left Chicago's Central Station at 4:00PM and arrived at Cincinnati at 10:55PM that same day. I also believe this to be at the Hyde Park curve just south of 39th Street, This is about the last curve for some distance on the IC. In the background is Chicago's famous Lake Shore Drive which would be behind the photographer were this a morning photo. This is one of the very few photos of any NYC passenger trains on the IC. Please post more as I've run this trackage for both the WC & CN in my railroad career.

A lot to love here. Classic engines and consist as well as cantenary and an eight-track mainline!

That's what I thought too... plus my train-riding memories.  Fortunately, this one slipped past the eBay high rollers.

Thanks for the location information and confirming that we are looking at No. 304.  I've been following eBay for about three years, and this is the first NYC passenger train on the IC that I have seen offered; unfortunately, it's the only example I have.

That was my destination while stationed there in 1965 and 1967.
