Those passenger cars were painted in the modified Chessie scheme as several V.P.'s were not too happy with the regular Chessie Steam Trains paint colors which had also been applied to their office cars during that period, thus the railroad went with this modified look. I was also told that had the Chessie System decided to operate any more steam excursions, they would be painting the passenger cars in this new scheme. However as we all know, once the trips were finished in 1981 with the former C&O 614, the railroad was not interested in any more of those excursions.
