Lombard on SP's Schellville Branch 1960

At one time Lombard, although not the busiest place on the SP, did have a small engine facility and an office. Back in 1960 there were a couple of switchers sitting around plus some wooden cabooses for use on the locals. The bottom photo shows the Oakland Schellville train grabbing orders. I looked on Goggle Maps and there isn't a trace of any of these scenes left.

Was that at the Hwy 29 crossing?

From the current aerial view of Lombard, do I see the remnant of a balloon track just east of the current Hwy 29 overpass and if so what was that used for?   It also looks like the Napa branch originally came straight out of the current Napa Junction rather than the current connection west of Hwy 29.

It was where the tracks crossed the old highway 29.

I found an answer to my own question courtesy of this prior TO discussion:http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,3450453

That "SP enginehouse" used to be the Napa Valley Route's carbarn.

On June 25, 1972, Schellville-bound Extra 4346 East was cleared at Lombard with two orders.  Noted on the back of the clearance is 6-104-3669 (loads, empties, tonnage) plus instruction to make the Lombard P.U. on the head end... a pretty typical NWP eastbound.

1) thru 3)  Lombard CA Clearance + T.O.'s 607-608

Lots of atmosphere in those shots.
