Grand Trunk Tuesday - Train 371 on IHB at 127th St.
Author: Englewood

Ken Lanovich took these on Nov.12th, 1983.
Location is 127th St. on the IHB, which is just west of Blue Island Jct.
The caption says this is train No. 371, which I believe went to the CNW at Proviso.

In the picture 127th St. is in the process of being grade separated.

Ken's girlfriend had an apartment along the tracks at Pulaski, I don't
know if that added to his attraction to her.

I also lived in Alsip for a time and know exactly what you are talking about
concerning the crossing.  Do you remember "The Consultants" who had an
"office" on 127th St., just east of the tracks?

A long time ago (70's) there was a hot dog stand on Burr Oak between the B&OCT and GTW mains.
Is it still there?  I recall they would be isolated when trains on both tracks were stopped.
Before the IHB grade separation it must have been a field day getting down that street.
That Trunk power sure looks good when clean.

A friend who retired from the railroad mentioned something similar. Is this in reference to a place where the "ladies of the night" worked?

By the way, those are great photos!!

For a few years in the late 70's I had an apartment along the B&OCT
at 126th St. (right by the distant signal to B.I.Jct. and across from the
garbage dump).  From the 3rd floor you could see both the B&O and the GTW.
I think the hot dog stand was called Bozo's.  On the north side of 127th St. between
the two crossings.

Now I avoid the area because of the CN (now CSXT) and CSXT (B&OCT) blocking the
crossings.

Yes, there was a small sign out in front "Consultants".
I thought maybe they were railroad consultants.
Then one day the Southtown newspaper broke the news that
it was a house of ill repute.
