Nostalgia & History > SP San Jose and Oakland 1975Date: 03/27/17 15:36 SP San Jose and Oakland 1975 Author: odub I made a quick trip to visit a college friend in March of 1975 and we were able to do a brief bit of railfanning while I was there.
First stop was San Jose. A couple of GP9Es were on a stub track out front of the San Jose roundhouse. SD7 1420 was poking out of the roundhouse.

The view south along the SP/WP tracks toward the street running past Jack London Square. Not sure where this shot was taken. A couple of UP SD40s and an SP SW1500. Hope you like them. Today if they even think you're looking at their property to take a photo even from across the street they want to throw you in jail for it. Sign of the times........

Spent a fair amount of time there, back when you were pretty much "free to roam." Love that painting.....WOW, one of the best I've seen.

Date: 03/28/17 08:49 Re: SP San Jose and Oakland 1975 Author: TonyJ Rebuilt units completed by SP at Sacramento under GRIP ! from 1970 to 1976 were recapitalized by SP selling the units to Southern Pacific Equipment Co., which then leased the units backto the SP. These units were designated by an E suffix to their model designation, such as GP9E,SD9, and GP20E.
