Nostalgia & History > Tuesday, two at Tonganoxie, Union Pacific 123 meets 172, c. 1910Date: 03/28/17 09:32 Tuesday, two at Tonganoxie, Union Pacific 123 meets 172, c. 1910 Author: KCRW287 From a RPPC c. 1910 2 trains at Tonganoxie. SB Mckeen is running as 123, NB mixed running as 172. 123 on duty at 0920 at Leavenworth, 172 on duty at Lawrence at 0910, with the TT having them meet at Tonganoxie at 1018. I used a UP ETT from 1914 for info about this picture.

For those unaware, the UP depot still stands in Tonganoxie. I'm pretty sure it's in its original spot, although there are other later adjacent buildings that have encroached in the old UP right-of-way. If a photographer were to stand in 5th St and look NNE this 1910 image could be emulated... sorta...

I did some digging and found a shot of the Tonganoxie depot from roughly the same spot as my predecessor photographer from OVER 100 years ago (kinda spooky when you think about it...) Lotsa changes... Lance 1. UP Tonganoxie, KS depot from the SSW end of the building on November 6 2014. Date: 03/29/17 00:20 Re: Tuesday, two at Tonganoxie, Union Pacific 123 meets 172, c. Author: mp51w That's unusual to have the bay window so close to the end of the building.
Darn thing still has the original siding too! Amazing! |
