Nostalgia & History > Looking for Photos of Richfield Oil #2 / ARCO #6920Date: 04/17/17 15:21 Looking for Photos of Richfield Oil #2 / ARCO #6920 Author: bowtie Greetings all,
I'm working on a special project at the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum in Campo, CA in preparation for the cosmetic/exterior restoration of Richfield Oil #2 (later Atlantic Richfield Company #6920), a chain-drive Baldwin diesel 40 tonner delivered new in 1954. Before being donated to the Museum in 1988 by ARCO, the locomotive spent its entire service life in the city of Carson, CA switching cars at the Richfield facilty in what was then known as Watson, then moving to the ARCO's Wilmington refinery. A limited history is available at https://www.psrm.org/trains/diesel/arco-6920/. We are hunting for images of the locomotive to repaint her as original as possible. Rumor has it that she was a similar shade of brown as some of Richfield's other on-road equipment of the time, but all of the original paint seems to have been removed (she has many layers of paint - mostly alternating layers of white and black). Any photos, leads, history of the locomotive or her sisters, or any other information to that end would be appreciated. The attached photo is of ARCO 6920 at Campo some years after her donation and is from the Museum's website. Photo is originally by Randy Houk - a long-time PSRMA member. Thank you, -Martin Caestecker Vice President PSRMA |
