Went to Photoshop and did a couple of quick auto-auto and found there's a lot going on in the photo:

That is an amazing shot with all the people in the shop tracks.

I know this must seem silly, but these photos just don't seem real, like they are off a train simulator program... Must just be me....

Funny to see diesels over the ash pit.

"this must seem silly, but these photos just don't seem real . . . "

I know what you mean. I feel the same way every time I see adult men in a railyard wearing suits and ties.

While these shots are well before my time, this looks like it might be Maybrook NY.  The second shot I am almost sure its Maybrook.  Really cool stuff, btw if this is Maybrook this real estate is now a trucking terminal.

Really a great look back in time.

Seems like it's really fine resolution, either in the scan or the original film. The clean clothes really pop againest the coal and oil background, but even the buildings have a fine testure to them. Interesting stuff.

Nice work with Photoshop. That really makes a huge difference and brought out a great deal of detail.

The pictures have a "model railroad" quality to them. Women in skirts in the rail yard, the almost radioactive orange on the Alco units. Why aren't there any tenant railroad units in the shops area?

Love the New Haven and love the Alco's, but I sure don't care for that paint scheme.

Maybrook did have multiple connections, I'm not sure that Erie, L&HR, NYO&W and L&NE had a separate terminal.
It's a good question, I'm inclined to think Maybrook solely based on the stack on the witch's hat over one of the coal silos,
Cavanaugh's book by NJ has a shot looks pretty much dead one for both of these save one of the two bunkers

If it isn't Maybrook, where would it be? It's not Cedar Hill - no catenary in view. It's not in the Boston area, and it's not Worcester. So by process of elimination it's pretty clear we're looking at Maybrook.

Yes, fine resolution. They are probably ASA 25 Kodachromes. That's what they had to work with back then.
