Here's Two Rare Birds
Author: MartyBernard

Two of Roger Puta's.

1. Morristown & Erie i4, an Alco S4 built in April 1952, at Whippany, NJ on April 26, 1969. It had a name: Mauritius Jensen (under the window). On the hood it says, "Service Is Our Business".

2. The La Salle and Bureau County Railroad Co. 6, a Baldwin VO-660 built in January 1956, in Monon's Hammond, IN yard on November 26, 1965. Now many railroads included the "The" on their locomotives? See: http://www.trainweb.org/lsbc/

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Bonus: Both the the Morristown & Erie and the LS&BC switchers are equipped with notched coupler knuckles, which as I understand it were designed to accommodate handling link & pin cars. You'd put the link in the notch and drop the pin down thru the holes in the end of the knuckle. The M&E shot shows the pin hole pretty clearly.

Once again excellent shots, Marty.

Thanks for sharing!

M&E also had an RS1 in that scheme. Alas, they're down to one operating Alco now, an ex-TP&W C424.

Here is a photo of M&E 14 at NJ Transit's Hoboken Terminal. It made an appearance at the Hoboken Terminal Renaissance festival and was heading back to Morristown.

On rear platform of #14 on right is the late Ben Freidland, M&E owner and president at that time.
