Interesting cars . . . a CNJ insulated box followed by a CPR 8-hatch ice reefer. I wonder what was in that?

I have no idea what was in the reefer. Perhaps somebody else knows.

I really like the photo.

The first car, the CNJ insulated boxcar may have been leased from Fruit Growers Express (FGEX). In fact, a number of eastern roads leased insulated boxcars from FGEX that included the lessor's herald. N&W leased some that were blue with white lettering. Based on your information, I would suspect this car was being routed back to CNJ, probably empty. Insulated cars were used to protect cargoes from temperature extremes. At the time this photo was taken, breweries used insulated cars for shipping beer.

The second car, the CP refer probably held a cargo of fruit such as apples or pears, or produce such as potatoes.

The third car is a mechanical reefer. That's about all I can tell about it.

As others have pointed out, the first two cars are very interesting.

It has NADX reporting marks . . . North American Car Co. You are right, though, lots of eastern roads leased cars from FGEX, including B&O, C&O, PC/PRR I believe, Southern, L&N, and N&W.

The CNJ insulated car was probably returning empty back to Ballentine Brewery located on CNJ branch in Harrison/Newark, NJ.

Your comment was made after Bob's 4/22 post that showed the reporting mark on the car. To be honest in your comment, you should have mentioned this. By failing to do so, you tried to look like you knew something that I did not. You knew the reporting mark could not be seen in this post. When you or anyone else comments on my posts, I expect the comments to be honest and fair.

I judged the car was leased; that was correct.
