Notes of this type from the SP were issued through its final days. Their purpose was not just good PR but rather something like a parent might write for a child returning to school after an absence. The commuter could present this note to his boss or his school to show that his previous day's tardiness was beyond his control.

I wonder if anyone kept a collection of these slips.
