Nostalgia & History > Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60Date: 04/28/17 05:23 Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: valmont This Alan Miller shot was taken near Pilgrim, KY of what some might conclude to be an ex-Conrail unit. However previous TO posts say it was an x-GN unit or an ex-Frisco unit while another says it was a "rebuilt ex BN/NP SD45".
Can someone confirm it's lineage? Date: 04/28/17 05:40 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: refarkas What a rare flare!

Date: 04/28/17 06:45 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: NSTopHat There are two there, or were there. The other has an L shaped window, which I believe is a ex-Frisco unit.
Russ Date: 04/28/17 07:36 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: CPR_4000 Looks like it had a signal light in the nose so Frisco is a possibility. I wonder if it was repowered with a non-EMD engine when the air intake went away? Also looks like it only has two cooling fans.
Date: 04/28/17 09:02 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: Betsy The cab clearly shows some steel plate welded over what was likely the "opera windows." That, and the cutout for a Gyralite in the nose would tend to support the idea that this is a former NP engine.
Elizabeth Date: 04/28/17 14:11 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: ESPEE5318 X2^ I concur based off of features it is ex NP
Date: 04/28/17 14:32 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: pal77 If you go by diesel shop web page for NP it says this former NP 3618. I am curious as to the mechanical modifications done as noted above.

Maybe in the photo deturboed and normally aspirated? === === = === JLH

SantaFeRuss Posted from Android Date: 04/29/17 13:03 Re: Flare Friday: Pontiki Coal SD45 #60 Author: Lackawanna484 There was a feature in X2200 south a few decades ago which summarised this unit's history. Along with several other coal country hermits.
