Nostalgia & History > May 1977: Steam on ConrailDate: 04/30/17 03:30 May 1977: Steam on Conrail Author: bandob Been a bit of a delay in my posting of my photos in chronological order, but I have some time this weekend to get back to it. In May, 1977, a double-headed steam excursion ran over Conrail, from Pittsburgh to Altoona and return. Locomotives were a former GTW 2-8-2 and Reading T1. Trip was marred by mechanical issues and we were so late I ended up taking a bus back to Pittsburgh from Altoona.
But, here's two photos on the trip with diesel helpers. He never showed and my buddy needed to be back in Albany, so we had to scoot. We'd chased the Chessie Steam Special out of Baltimore the day before. Quite a weekend.
