Photo 1.  I think this was the end of the line for us- as far (RR) East as we got.  Samoa.  We tied up there for lunch, and lively debate as to the precise definition of a Rule G violation, at The Smokehouse.  (You didn't think we'd miss that, did you?!)
Photo 2.  Back through Eureka...
Photo 3.  and past the stranded Humboldt Daylight (or whatever it was called)  I count 3 Shasta Daylight chairs, a Shasta Daylight tavern/ chair conversion, and a diner (whose?).  I heard these cars were rescued by trucking them out- is that true?   Someone must have the details of their fate.

The passenger cars were from the North Coast Daylight...the following site has a section on roster information on the cars this operation used, you will have to scroll down a bit to find it:

http://espee.railfan.net/1984_lsfd.html

The disposition information on this site is dated.

The North Coast Daylight only operated full Willits to Eureka trips in 1985, part of 1987, and 1988. Eureka Southern purchased the passenger cars from Great Western in early 1987, and operated the passenger service themselves in those two years. The road ran no passenger trains in 1989-1990, then started occasional Eureka to Fort Seward trips in 1991. North Coast Railroad Authority acquired the cars when their North Coast Railroad took over in 1992, they continued those runs a few weekends a year until sometime in very late 1994, I think the flood damage incurred in the winter of 1994-1995 may have ended the service south of Eureka. The railroad did operate Christmas trains around Humboldt Bay up until 1996 and maybe 1997, right before the end came in 1998. The end of full through operations in the first days of 1998 found the car fleet scattered along the railroad, those cars trapped on the north end were eventually moved to Scotia, they sat near the south end of the PALCo mill for years before NCRA finally sold them, a few were scrapped on the spot but a couple were trucked out. I think there is one in Willits, might have been in a fire recently? Then at least a couple more down at Healdsburg, I think those were sold to Napa Valley Wine Train and trucked over to it sometime last fall.

Thanks again for the on-going thread, I appreciate it a lot.
