Nostalgia & History > Spencer Shops This Weekend

The folks at the NC Museum of Transportation (Spencer Shops) put together a nice weekend mainly centered around the Texas of Great Locomotive Chase fame which has been undergoing a restoration before returning to indoor display in the Atlanta area. Somewhat surprisingly, though appreciated, was that CSX was one of the sponsors and NCMT pulled out all of the CSX-related locomotives for display -- most of which had not been seen outdoors in years. Here are a few shots not usually able to be had.

Interesting photos. Would be great to see ACL #501 out and running.

At least it was running in the sense that it moved around Spenser under its own power and sounded nice sitting there idling.

It was fully restored and operational when the state of North Carolina purchased it from the late Glenn F. Monhart's estate, back in 1999.
