Nostalgia & History > "Duelling" BN E9 units in Chicago -- Dec 76Date: 05/18/17 10:27 "Duelling" BN E9 units in Chicago -- Dec 76 Author: gcm It looks like a couple of BN commuter trains are racing out of Chicago Union Station.
Actually I believe the train on the right is headed to Aurora and the other is being taken out to the yard. Miss those E units. Gary Date: 05/18/17 11:21 Re: "Duelling" BN E9 units in Chicago -- Dec 76 Author: CNW8531 Nice! I miss those commuter E's.

Several of them were sold to the Maryland DOT for MARC Commuter Trains and operated primarily on the former B&O Railroad for several years in the early 1990's. This photo was not taken by me; sent to me from another friend. Thanks for posting these. Bob Date: 05/18/17 14:15 Re: "Duelling" BN E9 units in Chicago -- Dec 76 Author: gcm ClubCar Wrote:

Why would "re-gearing" be necessary, as the Suburban Service was generally operated at a maximum of 79 MPH? Marker lights on the engine are lit and the yellow gumball on top is out. Headlight would be on because small markers did not meet FRA marker regs. This might be an express that Union Ave. tower kept on BN MT 2 which became CUS main track 6 (which the train is shown on). Not meaning to nit-pick but I am always intrigued by CUS pictures having spent a lot of time working there. If I see the headlight on, I assumed it is leading but your statement shows that is not always the case. Thanks for the info! Gary Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/06/17 14:18 by gcm. |
