Still Around in 2000
Author: WichitaJct

Some 25 years after the CBQ+GN+NP+SPS merger, there was still rolling stock around with the old owner's logo still on it, although they were fading rapidly.

Excellent catch! And is that a UP Centennial in the background?

That is the UP 6900 along with the 4023 in temporary storage between OMA Union Station and the Burlington Station. The photo was taken from the Amtrak platform in OMA. I think this was 2001 as the two engines were brought here while I was working at Amtrak in OMA and that was in 2001.

That's pretty cool. That tank car appears to be the one Athearn based theirs on. Just a few years prior to that I was working at the Monsanto Plant in Springfield MA, and there were a lot of tank cars there. I saw the same basic tank car there (Athearn type) but not CB&Q of course, and marveled that there was such an old styles tank car still in service.

Cheers, Jim Fitch
