How did Amtrak miss this heritage paint scheme?

Amtrak E-8 #4316 on the Broadway Limited at Whiting In. Pointless arrow on flanks, but Blue and White stripes, for touch of color.
Very early Amtrak.

Actually, THE earliest Amtrak repaint scheme, if memory serves.  Only 1 or 2 were done, both assigned to the Broadway.

I believe there was only one, and it was painted so that Amtrak could have a locomotive to display for media purposes on its first day, 1 May 1971. The paint scheme was never replicated or standardized.

The image of this engine, and another of a model named Patty Boyd ("the Amtrak girl") in a semi-cheeescake pose in an office setting, were widely displayed in print media on 1-2 May 1971.

Patty was, in fact, a regular Amtrak employee- not an outside model. I worked with her fairly often on 11/14 out of LA in the mid-80's. She was a train attendant.

I believe she'd been a Seaboard Coast Line "Stewardess Nurse" on its New York-Florida trains. There are photos of her in SCL timetables posed on the Florida Special. I always heard the name Patty Saunders.

Second unit is a PC E7. Not very many of those ran for Amtrak. BSB

Very rare! The only photo I have ever seen of 4316 in that scheme actually running. Anyone know how long she ran in that one-off livery?

The automobile to the extreme right looks interesting, but maybe a bit close to the tracks
