4449 at Dunsmuir in 1945
Author: photobob

Since 4449 is in the limelight this weekend here's a flashback to when it was earning it's keep for the SP. Al Phelps took this shot of the West Coast at Dunsmuir. She's getting a once over by the Dunsmuir shop crew before she heads out of town. Somehow the Coast Starlight don't get this kind of care when it rolls through town.

Looks as if the local trainmaster (wearing the suit) has a few words for the engineer prior to departure. Road Foreman would have been in overalls.

Wow!  GREAT photo!
Still in the "Lines" scheme too!

Did many GS-4's make it this far north (RR east) on any kind of regular basis?   I always figured it was mostly GS-2's & 3's.

That's the grubbiest-looking Yellowjacket that I've ever seen in a photo

During the WW II, just about any type loco could be seen system wide.
