Nostalgia & History > Shortline Sunday Vermont 1970Date: 06/25/17 04:33 Shortline Sunday Vermont 1970 Author: kgmontreal Spring was coming to Vermont in this April 1970 view of the St Johnsbury & Lamoille County eastbound between their home base in Morrisville and the CP/MEC interchange in St Johnsbury. The pair of Geeps had arrived on the property a couple of years earlier replacing GE 70-tonners.

At the time the St. J carried a surprising amount of bridge line traffic between the CN at Swanson and MEC at St. Johnsbury. The Staggers act and continued decline of New England manufacturing ultimately killed that business.

The St J had some decent sized trains in those days. By the way it's Swanton, not Swanson and at the time of my photo the western interchange was Fonda Jct.
