Nostalgia & History > More on Galesburg, IllinoisDate: 06/28/17 14:16 More on Galesburg, Illinois Author: MartyBernard The other day I posted a couple of photos taken of trains at the Galesburg, Illinois station. The result was a lot of good discussion. I found four more of Roger Puta's slides taken by the Galesburg Station which I think you will find interesting.
1. Roger's caption, "View of CB&Q Galesburg, ILL. station, freight lead by #366, O1A #4960, and #3006 on display. June 19, 1966." 2. Roger's caption, "CB&Q Divison Offices and Station at Galesburgh, Illinois. June 2, 1962." 3. Roger's caption, "CB&Q S-4 #3006 built in 1930 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works on display east of the station at Galesburg, ILL. June 2, 1962." 4. Roger's caption, "CB&Q Train #36, the Kansas City Zephyr, going through the Seminary Street Interlocking at Galesburg, ILL. June 12, 1966." If you look really hard at Photo 1 you can make out the tower above the dome car behind 4960 and behind the signals. Enjoy, Marty Bernard Edited 2 time(s). Not sure when the roundhouse came down but the coal tower lasted until the early 80's. The land is still unused by BNSF because of the massive contamination from all the fuel other other things throughout the years. At least that's what I was told on the rail yard tour at Galesburg RR days this past weekend by our guide who hired out with the CB&Q in '61 Location of the old roundhouse and coal tower The dropped pin won't cooperate buts its the green space in between the tracks https://goo.gl/maps/Xq3kMENhZJ12 Posted from iPhone Edited 2 time(s). I remember 4960 and 5632 turning on the table.
