Nostalgia & History > Rock Island Spreader, MKT PowerDate: 07/07/17 11:00 Rock Island Spreader, MKT Power Author: BNSF-6432 Among the Frank Tribbey collection I found an interesting move he captured in 1970 somewhere in central Oklahoma. I assume this is Katy trackage with a Rock Island spreader either being leased or borrowed. Seems somewhat ironic being as both railroads weren't well known for good track maintenance. No notes given with the picture.

know exactly when the Katy got the south end of the Minnesota-Texas Corridor, but could this have been a train for track maintenance? Nick Tharalson, Marion, IA Date: 07/08/17 08:26 Re: Rock Island Spreader, MKT Power Author: TCnR The Jordan 'spreaders' were originally used for spreading ballast and making the drainage ditch along the edge of the ballast. The spreader in the photo has some markings on the plows suggesting it had been spreading ballast, looks like this is exactly what they were doing. Don't know the rest of the story or the connection between ownership or location though.
