Backing Up - NKP 759 (Part Two)
Author: refarkas

I was asked for a wider view of the image of NKP 759 backing up in Conneaut, Ohio on September 8, 1968. Although the original negative image was square, I cropped it so it would look better.
Image one: Wider crop.
Image two: Unidentified railfans.

Very nice. Thank you Bob.
I notice that the "radio box" is still on the tender. Was it used for anything at this point?
That had to be the busiest elevated crossing tower on the NKP back in steam days.
There was a constant flow of engines coming to and from the roundhouse and ready tracks, many switching moves by 0-8-0's, and the two furthest tracks came from an online coaling and servicing facility which handled eastbounds continuing on to Buffalo.

The wider crop really captures the event. The watch tower definitely adds to the scene.

I bet that watch tower was a great place to work in the spring and the fall...

Was not there in 1968, but between 1975 to 1980
Conneaut was the N&W terminal that was working.

The crossing tower brings many memories
as spent many hours taking pictures from it.

The jobs disappear in the late 1970's.
and the crossing towers became history.

Thanks for sharing the photo !

The tall thin individual, second in from the right, bears a resemblance to Dick Jensen of GTW 5629 fame what with the horn rimmed eyeglasses. The trademark overcoat is missing though and I don't know why he'd be out and around NKP 759 in 1968.
