Back then the RI was a "mighty fine line", and the Golden State was a first class train with a boat tail obs that we spent a lot of time in, watching the semaphores drop once we were south of Tucumcari, NM (on the SP at that point). We arrived on time in Phoenix late at night where the temp was still in the high 90s.

Been in LaSalle Street many times on commuters and main line passenger. Note that they must have had issues with the cab car noting units on each end of this commuter.
