MRL Missoula, MT, Depot
Author: cozephyr

Montana Rail Link first light with MRL 252, SD40-2XR and 260 at Missoula, Montana. Former Northern Pacific Missoula depot appears well maintained. The current depot, which was completed in 1901, was designed by noted architects Reed and Stem of St. Paul, Minnesota, in a simplified Renaissance Revival style of architecture.

The depot is constructed in brick, with a terra cotta tile roof. It features a main three-story structure flanked by one story wings on each side. The main structure is divided by brick columns into six bays, with the outer four columns on each side sporting the Northern Pacific black and red yin-yang logo.

In May 2015 MRL's office car train "Silver Cloud" was at the old NP depot in Missoula, preparing for a short run for Special Olympics athletes.

MRL never used the building as a railroad facility. It is owned by Dennis Washington. The coach tracks are used to park passenger trains.
