Along with all the freight action we made an extra effort to shoot #17 and #18 not knowing how long the Zephyr would be around. On 6/3/82 we chased #17 from Price,UT. to Salt Lake City,UT. Shot #1 is #17 coming out of Helper,UT. Shot #2 was taken from Route 6 just east of Colton,UT. Shot #3 shows #17 coming out of the canyon into Spanish Fork,UT. just before we lost our light. It was a great chase!

You mentioned taking pictures of freight trains at that time too. I find I can never get enough of late 1970's and early 1980's freight trains. I'd love to see some of those photos too! You can just make out an "Approach" signal by the head end. We made a running meet with a freight in a siding up ahead. I'm pretty sure that I got up into every Dome on this trip! Glad we got to do it too!
