Burlington Zephyr and Passenger east of Kansas City -Help
Author: JimBaker

The thread title is the only info I have in this photo.
Can any one identify the Zephyr and further detail of this Company Photo?
Thanks, in advance.

It might be the Pioneer Zephyr; the occasion could be the inauguration of the Kansas City and American Royal Zephyrs in early 1953, just after the "Kansas City Shortcut" was built to speed traffic between Quincy and Kansas City. The "shortcut" was largely single-track, so it's not clear if the photo was taken there (on second thought, one of those tracks is a siding, and the cut looks new).

9976 was built as an E-8 in 1953 and, after a long and varied career, is now at the Illinois Railway Museum.

To confirm, it is the Pioneer Zephyr (CB&Q 9900) on the left.
