Nostalgia & History > A second Life in Latah, WADate: 07/28/17 05:58 A second Life in Latah, WA Author: funnelfan In 1998 I found this old wrecked hopper car sitting on a old siding at Latah, WA along UP's abandoned branch between Fairfield and Tekoa, WA. The hopper is still there today, but now on stilts and with the end platforms cut off and used as elevated storage bins.

"The UP had already abandoned their line south of Fairfield when this gem arrived. Even though the track was still in place, they wouldn't move it from Fairfield to Latah. So the farmers took it upon themselves to drag it to Latah with a tractor. I believe that this run was made in the middle of the night." Ted Curphey Ontario, OR |
