Nostalgia & History > Running Through UD InterlockingDate: 09/17/17 01:00 Running Through UD Interlocking Author: MartyBernard UD Interlocking controlled movements to, from, and past the Joliet Illinois Union Depot (thus "UD" Interlocking) both on the four east-west tracks of the Rock Island which crossed the four north-south tracks of the AT&SF and GM&O using 16 diamonds. Today there are only 4 diamonds.
Here is a southbound (RR westbound) Santa Fe freight running through UD Interlocking on June 25, 1991. The power was ATSF 3432 and 3680, a GP39-2u and a GP39-2. UD Tower is visible in the caboose photo. It is no longer manned or womanned. Enjoy, Marty Bernard Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 09/17/17 01:04 by MartyBernard. C&A (Chicago & Alton) on the DS phone. Not sure when they started using UD. zr190 Date: 09/17/17 05:09 Re: Running Through UD Interlocking Author: Bob3985 A great series of photos Marty. I can remember spending many hours there several days a year as well.
