They were beautiful when brand new or freshly painted but that didn't last long with the white running boards and walkways.

They sure look brand spanking new and shiny !

Hard to believe it was all so long ago.

If my sources are correct this locomotive also wore MoPac (Jenks?) Blue and GMTX blue with a stint in UP Armour Yellow.

It does look great but all that white - especially on the pilots and steps!  Wow.

I don't know if there was any truth to it but there was a rumor among employees at the
time that some bigwig's wife had chosen the color scheme. That would make sense because
anyone who had ever been around a railroad would know that white would not stay clean. Especially
on a railroad not known for good maintenance.

How many railroad miles was/is Blue Island, IL from the EMD plant in McCook, IL?

That blue trim on the bottom steps, front and back, are sharp.
Rock blue looks pretty close to the EMD blue on its builder's plate.

All that white is alarming to see on a loco, but I was really surprised
when visiting KCS Shreveport Yard in 1989 to see white, all white, motors all over the place.

Excellent photo; thanks. And Route Rock.
